Helpful tips for your Galapagos travel planning

We typically recommend exploring the Galapagos archipelago by cruise and then spending a few relaxing days in the island paradise of Isabela in the western part of the Galapagos Islands.

Because you invariably travel via the Ecuadorian mainland, we also recommend spending two nights in Quito or Guayaquil on your inbound journey to the islands. The connections from international flights to domestic flights to the Galapagos are very tight. If you plan just one night on the mainland, there is not enough buffer in case of a flight delay. Plus, since you will already be in Ecuador, we recommend you spend a few days in the country. Ecuador offers more unique holiday experiences in a short distance than many other countries in Latin America. In just a few short hours from the capital city of Quito, you can be hiking in the Andes Mountains, take a train to the coast along the Avenue of the Volcanoes or grab a flight and canoe to the lodges of the Amazon region.

Create your own custom Galapagos and Ecuador trip on our page first by finding inspiration among our proposals, picking a cruise route and ship that matches your own needs and then personalizing your itinerary with hotels, day trips and lengths of stay. We would be happy to give you advice over the phone or by email before you make a binding booking request. You can also reach out to a partner travel agency in your area that has been trained to be a Galapagos pro.

We hope to make your trip a unique and individual experience for you!

A Galapagos tour with a cruise can consist of these components:

Cotopaxi vulcano close to Quito in Ecuador

Quito and day or multi-day trips to the Amazon and the Andes

Schiff Galapagos Legend

We would be happy to advise you on cruise ships and routes, because it is important to find one that suits you.

Two marine iguanas sunbathe on the volcanic rocks of Isabela Island

Subsequent Galapagos holiday on Isabela Island to experience animals up close, day in and day out

Kolonialer Charme in Guayaquil

Return via Guayaquil, including a possible shopping stopover

You can also plan a holiday in the Galapagos without a cruise. As a Galapagos specialist, we typically recommend a tour starting in the Ecuadorian mainland. There are numerous nature experiences in Ecuador. We would be happy to help you plan individual day trips or multi-day excursions to the Amazon, to the Andes or within Quito. It is well worth it!

One option is a domestic flight to San Cristóbal at the far eastern end of the islands, where you can spend a good first few nights and experience everyday life with sea lions. From there, you can either take a speedboat or propeller plane to Santa Cruz (plane goes via Baltra). We suggest that you spend a few nights here, enjoying the wildlife in the little town of Puerto Ayora and taking several day trips by boat. Then you definitely need to spend at least three nights on Isabela Island. The island is a paradise on earth and a place where you can get up close and personal with many different types of animals, including flamingos, marine iguanas, sharks and sea turtles. For the return journey, the best is to fly via Baltra and Guayaquil back to Europe. We can, of course, work with you to create your own personal Galapagos trip, which can deviate from this standard program.

These are the components that typically make up a Galapagos experience without a cruise:

Train through the Andes

Ecuadorian mainland: Quito old town, day trips and multi-day excursions to the Andes and the Amazon.

Sea lions lay on park bench in Galapagos

Flight to San Cristóbal, the sea lion island

giant tortoises very close to tourists on Santa Cruz in Galapagos

Travel by speedboat or propeller flight to Santa Cruz. Highlight: Free-ranging giant tortoises.

Discover Land Iguanas at Galapagos Island North Seymour

Santa Cruz: all kinds of different day trips, such as a trip to Santa Fe Island to see the marine iguanas or a trip to North Seymour Island

Nicest white sand beach of Galapagos is on Isabela island

Travel by speedboat or propeller flight to Isabela Island. Galapagos holiday with flamingoslizards and much more.

colourful houses in Las Peñas - old city center hill in Guayaquil

Return via Baltra Airport, ideally to Guayaquil, where you either fly directly on to Europe or build in a day for shopping

We are a tour operator specialized in the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador and provide expert advice. The fact that we are here at all is no accident. The presence of a travel advisor in the German-speaking market was desperately needed and long overdue. In recent years, the islands have seen a change in the types of visitors they receive. In its early days, tourism to the islands was dominated by scientists and nature enthusiasts, whereas nowadays you can find more and more beach lovers and even surfers on the Galapagos. Although the coexistence is still peaceful, the animals are already showing the first signs of stress. Read more on that here.

Considerable guidance is also crucial when planning a trip to the Galapagos Islands. There is an urgent need for professional experts to advise you in your travel planning and make sure nothing in your preparations is left up to chance. That is our mission. Our goal is to offer you the best travel advice and give you the right amount of preparation for your trip. We also do everything we can to make your trip an unforgettable individual experience with the wildlife on the Galapagos Islands, albeit with minimal impact on the local flora and fauna. We have local agreements with a variety of shipping companies and nature guides and help you secure travel in a style that matches your wishes and expectations.
