Beate Zwermann: “Ecuador has been my second home for years. I went to Quito the first time in 1989 on my way to Peru, but Ecuador mesmerized me. It is the most beautiful country in the world, a first-class natural paradise, an island of peace and a wonder of creation. With Galapagos PRO, I am now doing professionally what I had already been doing anyway: showing people the greatest natural paradise on earth.”

Why we founded Galapagos PRO…

The founding of Galapagos PRO as a travel company specialized in the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador was no accident. Quite to the contrary, it was long overdue and is desperately needed. In recent years, the islands have seen a change in the types of visitors they receive. In the early days, tourism to the islands was dominated by scientists and nature enthusiasts, whereas nowadays you can find more and more beach tourists and even surfers in the Galapagos. For them, it is not just about the natural paradise. Even though the coexistence still looks peaceful, the animals are already showing the first signs of stress. (Source: Galapagos, travel guide of the Swiss Association of Friends of the Galapagos Islands.)

A trip to the Galapagos Islands is a magnificent encounter with the natural origins of our planet. Some 95% of the flora and fauna is still in its natural state. In no other place on earth can you experience the history of evolution in real time. When you see Darwin’s finches, you immediately understand how Charles Darwin came up with the idea behind his theory of the origin of species more than 200 years ago. The Galapagos Islands are a place for explorers, curious minds and respectful observers of nature and wildlife. They are a place for people who have a keen sense of our planet’s vulnerability and travel the islands with great caution, closely adhering to the rules of nature conservation.

The islands are not a luxury travel destination, even though they are among the most exclusive and expensive places on earth. The term “expedition” is a better way to describe travel there.

Considerable guidance is also crucial when planning a trip to the Galapagos Islands. We train travel agencies to become Galapagos pros, and we have set up a booking platform that meets your need for information on the experience and travel options in the islands. It is, so to speak, the ultimate web-based planning tool with the best trip components, offers and ideas, all combinable in a personalized way.

Partners and collaborations

Galapagos PRO is the result of the founders’ years of experience in the travel industry and with Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. We purposefully sought out strong partners to support our project from the very beginning:

  • The Destination Marketing Group: Philip Cooke and his team have worked with us for many years promoting Ecuador in the UK & Irland. He is an expert on the product and the most reliable person for customer advise and services.
  • The airlines KLM, Lufthansa & Air Europa. They will take you safely and soundly to Ecuador.
  • Swiss Association of Friends of the Galapagos Islands: Through Galapagos PRO, we support research on the island by donating a fixed amount of EUR 25.00 per traveler to the association. Read more about that here.

Travel and payment terms and conditions

Special terms and conditions for travel and payment apply to cruises in the Galapagos Islands. Please keep them in mind.

This is due to the long booking periods and the limited availability on the cruise ships.
